Christmas on the Internet
With Christmas fast approaching, where better to start this new feature than a look at Christmas on the internet.
Just in case you don’t know how long you have before the big day, visit www.allspirit.co.uk/christmas/ which has a countdown to the second about half way down the page. The more traditional countdown is of course an Advent Calendar and a really good online one can be found at
www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/customs/xmas/calendar it’s a long address but worthwhile visiting as there is a lot of other Christmas information on the site too. It won’t let you open the doors before the day though so no peeping.
Another advent calendar can be found at www.north-pole.co.uk where you can also send a letter to Santa.
If you have still to buy your Christmas cards then go no further than www.christmas-cards.org.uk where you can get cards that support a range of charities. It also gives details of the work that those charities do. You can also send an e-card from this site and save a few trees!
Do you have any veggies or vegans coming for Christmas dinner? Don’t just buy a nut roast from the supermarket, check out the recipes on these sites. www.vegsoc.org/info/xmas.html and www.veganfamily.co.uk/yule.html.
There are a whole host of sites that provide a variety of Christmas information including www.whychristmas.com , www.christmas-time.com and www.soon.org.uk/christmas.htm. These include history, traditions, activities etc. For more specific children’s activities for the festive season (and other festivals) click on www.activityvillage.co.uk/christmas_pages.htm.
Can’t remember the name of a carol that keeps running through your head? Try www.carols.org.uk, if your computer lets you, it is possible to hear the tunes as well. Alternatively if you want to refresh your memory as to what the Queen had to say in her speech last year (or any year back to 1990) then go to www.sim64.co.uk/queens.html. It is already set up for this year’s speech too just in case you miss it.
Finally, for details of the services in the parish over the Christmas period visit the impressive parish website at www.kingsnorton.org.uk. Why not set this page as your home page and keep up to date with all the news from the parish.
Happy Christmas.
