The Da Vinci Code

As I write this article, The Da Vinci Code film is about to hit our cinema screens. Despite its poor reviews at the Cannes Film Festival it has aroused lots of interest, not least from Christians who are upset by the 'truths' it claims to uncover. Whether these protests will be any more effective than those against 'Jerry Springer – The Opera' or the Harry Potter books only time will tell.

There are a number of sites on the Internet that discuss the content of this film/book and a good place to start is www.rejesus.co.uk/davinci/index_2.html which provides links not only to official sites for the film and the author, but also gives lots of other information, responses and rebuttals. It even includes links to two sermon's by the Archbishop of Canterbury, one referring to the coverage of The Da Vinci Code literature at www.archbishopofcanterbury.org/sermons_speeches/060416a.htm and another on the Gospel of Judas, which has been used to provide evidence for the book's theory www.archbishopofcanterbury.org/sermons_speeches/060416.htm.

Another site to visit is thedavincicode.org.uk/ which examines ten of the claims made in the book in detail. From across the Atlantic two more sites dedicated to countering the claims made by Dan Brown in his book are www.y-zine.com/monalisa1b.htm andwww.christianitytoday.com/history/newsletter/2003/nov7.html the first of these is quite long, but an interesting read if you have the time.

I hope you enjoy the film if you go and see it, but remember it is just fiction.

Happy surfing!
