"I know it will be all right in the end." Words of hope I heard recently from someone in the middle of a very deep and demanding family situation.

God's hope is not just hanging on until something turns up. It is a conviction of the heart that although change may be slow and we may have to bear much on the way, nothing is wasted. The little things we do now to keep others and ourselves going are not futile gestures. They are simply what we are called to do today to make God's future possible.

As Desmond Tutu kept saying in the struggle against apartheid in South Africa, even in the darkest days, "The question is not if but only when God's liberation will come."

Holy Week and Easter are God's invitation to stop being puppets in the hands of chance and change and become partners in God's hope, for us and for all creation...
