For some years, churches across the world have been keeping the last Sunday of September as Back to Church Sunday. We do too. In St Nicolas, Immanuel and Hawkesley, it will be a day of invitation and encouragement, of welcome, praise and prayer.
The invitations have gone out - to every member and to the many more who have shared in the life of our congregations in baptisms, weddings, funerals, schools and much else. We pray and hope that many will respond – if not on the day itself, then soon after.
Back to Church Sunday may feel like an Open Day, a PR exercise or a recruitment drive. It isn’t. It is celebration and reminder of what church is about all the time. That is nothing less than people finding and growing together in God’s promise of life in all its fullness for the sake of others and our communities – on Sundays and weekdays alike...
