Fairtrade Foundation Wins Queen's Award

April 2010

Volunteers needed for St Nicolas' Fairtrade stall

Kings Norton Team Parish has worked hard to establish its status as a Fairtrade Parish, one where, as a matter of policy, only fairly traded goods are used at parish events. We were therefore delighted to learn that the Fairtrade Foundation has won the Queens' Award for Enterprise in the Sustainable Development category.

The award is a tribute to the hard work and entrepreneurialism of tens of thousands of producers in developing countries and the UK public who see Fairtrade goods as a fantastic way of addressing global trade injustice and poverty. Increasingly companies and retailers agree and are giving shoppers what they want in greater numbers. We are proud to be part of such a movement and keen to encourage everyone in Kings Norton to learn more about it

You can read more about the award on the Fairtrade Foundation's website. You can also listen to an inspiring BBC Radio interview with Harriet Lamb CBE, Executive Director of the Fairtrade Foundation since 2001, by clicking here. (The interview starts at 1 min 36 sec and ends at 9 min 0 sec).
