The name comes from the Latin word for "complete" and is the final service of the seven monastic daily offices or services. It is, essentially, a quiet and contemplative service - before ending the day. It opens and closes with responses and prayers, uses Psalms, quiet songs or chants and centres around a Bible reading and short meditation or talk.
The music used is varied; both ancient plainchant and short modern songs or hymns. Much of the music is for unaccompanied voices, but simple enough to join in, even if you have never learnt it before.
