Our Churches

St Nicolas' Church

At St Nicolas', the parish church, early risers are able to enjoy a 9 o'clock "said" Holy Communion (i.e. without music). It is a well-loved, tranquil service which uses the traditional language of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer.

The main Sunday service starts at 10.30 am and lasts about an hour. It is usually accompanied by the church choir. It usually takes the form of Holy Communion in contemporary language. On the 2nd Sunday of the month, there is an All-Age Service with opportunities for children to be more actively involved.

Each Sunday evening at 6.00 p.m. there is a more meditative service in a range of styles, from Compline to Taizé Prayer.

Immanuel Church

If you like a more informal approach to worship, you may prefer Immanuel Church. We gather each Sunday at Saint Nicolas' Place, next door to St Nicolas' Church, for a service led sometimes by one of the clergy, sometimes by a member of the congregation. The singing is accompanied by musicians and draws on a broad range of songs in a variety of styles.

As at the parish church, there are separate activities for children of primary school age during the service. Imaginative use is made of information technology and other audio and visual aids. Children are, of course, encouraged to be actively involved and, once or twice a month, an All-Age Service places particular emphasis on their gifts, needs and insights. Immanuel Church, like all our churches, offers a friendly atmosphere and visitors are warmly welcomed.

Hawkesley Church

Hawkesley Anglican/ Methodist Church meets for worship each Sunday at 10.30 am in the School Hall at Hawkesley Primary Academy, Shannon Road. Children and adults are most welcome at this family service. It is relatively informal and suitable for those who wish to worship in the Anglican or Methodist traditions.

We are a friendly and welcoming congregation and we organise a number of events which are open to all. Some are mainly of a social nature such as the pancake evening on Shrove Tuesday, a quiz evening, which includes a fish and chip supper and a Christmas Coffee Morning.
